Michele Allen: Forgotten Fruit
18 October 2013 - 04 January 2014
This new project by artist-photographer Michele Allen was selected from an international open call competition. Michele’s series of photographs explore fruit growing in urban environments and were produced whilst she was pregnant and her son was a baby. Michele worked on the project for over a year, revisiting sites close to where she lives as the seasons changed, and reflecting on how the world shrinks during pregnancy and early motherhood and also how new perspectives and ways of looking can open up.
Forgotten Fruit is part of The Social: Encountering Photography, a new international celebration of photography, organized by North East Photography Network and shown in different venues across the North East during autumn 2013.
The Social: Encountering Photography is supported by University of Sunderland and Arts Council England.
