Alastair Lee Double Bill: Citadel + The Last Great Climb (adv 15)

Tickets £10.00 / £8.00 (conc)

Dir. Alastair Lee. 2013/2015. 56mins/60mins.

Shot entirely in 4K, Al Lee’s Citadel looks at the peak dubbed The Mountain God’.  A stunning 3000m summit in one of the remaining untouched corners of the Great Alaskan Range, the Citadel is beautiful, deadly and plagued by bad weather and avalanches.  Matt Helliker and Jon Bracey are one the UK's most formidable partnerships in alpine climbing with many world-class ascents to their names.  Their objective is to make the first ascent of the extraordinary 1200m long northwest ridge….

The Last Great Climb follows top adventure climber Leo Houlding and his team as they attempt to make the first ascent of the NE ridge of 'the masterpiece of the range' - the majestic 'Ulvetanna Peak' (2931m). One of the most technically demanding climbs in the world’s harshest environment. The film tells the story of Leo’s lifelong dream to reach one of the world's most remote and difficult summits, interweaved with the fascinating story of the mountain itself - which incredibly was only discovered in 1994!  The film includes interviews from Sir Chris Bonington, as well as Norwegian climbers Ivar Tolleffsen & Robert Caspersen, who first explored the area in 1994.

Following on from the launch event in December 2017, Open Sky Pursuits opens the doors to the north east community of fans of the great outdoors and mountaineering.

The venue bar will be open from 6.30pm and this screening will include a special raffle in the interval.

Tickets £10 / £8 concessions.
